In the meantime here are tips for determining your skin type:
There are 5 main skin types to look out for- Normal, Dry, Oily, Sensitive, & Combination
We asked one of our Estheticians, Alicia, about these different types and what to look for.
Let’s start with Normal skin: Normal skin means you have very few outbreaks, but still have changing skin with the seasons. This
results in dryer skin for the winer. Products to use with normal skin need to have non-active ingredients. Make sure to have a cleaner and a moisturizer to use every day.
Oily: With oily skin, you will normally have some acne. It is important to determine what kind of acne you have. Mild acne is appears with some white heads, and occasionally get black heads. Cystic acne can linger and be swollen. If you have mild acne, we recommend using a product with salicylic acid, which is the active ingredient. This will help with the acne and in return help with the oily skin. If you have more of the cystic acne you will want to have a product with benzoyl peroxide which is another active ingredient. **TIP: If you have oily skin, DO NOT TRY TO DRY OUT THE SKIN. This does not help, and will only make it worse. You are over producing oils and getting on a regimen will help with that. Oil wipes are also not recommended!
Dry: If you experience a feeling of tightness in your skin or having flaky skin, then most likely you have dry skin. For dry skin, we recommend using a product with hyaluronic acid. This will help to lock in moisture, and create a good barrier to hold in the moisture. Use a mega-moisture moisturizer as well.
Sensitive: This is generally characterized by redness and reactions to products. With sensitive skin, products make your skin break out and feel tender. To help with this use products that have NO active ingredients, a mild and gentle cleanser and a sensitive moisturizer.
Combination: There are two combos that your skin could be. These are oily and dry, or dry and sensitive. For dry and sensitive, you will want to use only sensitive products because most likely anything else will cause a breakout. For oily and dry skin, you will want to use a mega purifying cleanser, and spot treat the acne.
- For everyday, no matter your skin type you will want a cleanser, serum and moisturizer. Make sure to do morning and night.
- You want to take your makeup off every night, and do not wear makeup to the gym. This will
help your skin, and make it healthier.
- SUNSCREEN is so important. Make sure to wear everyday , even in the winter.
- Exfoliating is great for your skin as well, make sure to do this 3 times a week.
